31.05.2006 - EANA pays Homage to MINDS-co-Ordinator Meinolf Ellers The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) has decided to give Mr Meinolf Ellers, Managing Director of dpa-infocom GmbH in Hamburg, the first EANA Award for Excellence in News Agency Quality. Mr Ellers gets the prize as the co-ordinator of the MINDS project (Mobile Information and News Data Services), a European project on mobile media services developed by the German news agency dpa´s subsidiary dpa-infocom, Dutch news agency ANP, Austrian news agency APA, Hungarian news agency MTI and Swiss news agency SDA/ATS. The EANA Bureau, which is also the jury for the award, said that: “The MINDS project, co-ordinated by Mr Meinolf Ellers, combines the development of innovative mobile media services and business models that have proved to be attractive on the market as they represent highly integrated work-flows between news agencies and publishers. The project has also created a European network for market exploitation including trans-national deals”. The first national MINDS platform was launched in Germany by dpa-infocom in March 2005 with twelve newspaper publishers. The interest for the MINDS solution grew rapidly and in early 2006 almost 40 German newspapers operated their mobile services on the MINDS platform representing a daily circulation of more than six million copies. Mr Ellers, 44, is since 2000 the Managing Director of dpa subsidiary dpa-infocom GmbH, Hamburg. Since 2005 he is also Managing Director of Globus Infografik GmbH (dpa subsidiary), Hamburg. 1998-1999 he started and was the chief of the central desk for entertainment, media, culture and science at dpa, In 1996 he was the team leader for the development of dpa-Online, Hamburg. 1994-1998 he was chief of the desk for culture and science and 1991-1993 the news agency´s bureau chief in Tokyo. 1987-1990 he served as special correspondent for German affaires to the English, Spanish and Arabic wire services of dpa. Mr Ellers joined dpa in 1985 as correspondent and reporter for dpa in Essen. The EANA Award will be presented to Mr Ellers by the EANA President, Mr Paul Tesselaar, Managing Director of Dutch news agency ANP, in Geneva on September 21, 2006 when EANA celebrates its 50th anniversary. http://www.pressalliance.com/Contact: |
